I always unpinned this remote desktop title bar so that it would automatically hide, BUT it would still get in my way occasionally. For example, when connecting to another RDP session, there will be two title bars overlapping. I could get around the issue by moving one, but it was just annoying or confusing at best. The other time it would cause problems was in Chrome, because Chrome browser tabs are so high up on the screen that I would get within the pixel limits of opening the hidden connection bar when trying to select a Chrome tab. I wondered if it could be hidden and even Googled it to no avail.
Today I was playing with some resolution settings for something unrelated and came across this setting. Could it be?
Yes, it works. Totally hides the connection bar, more than just unpinning it. It’s a little weird at first to not have it because that’s where I usually disconnect… So do you need it? I was stuck for a few seconds on how to disconnect when I realized that I can just use Start — Logoff — Disconnect!
Turns out there were some references out there of people who posted about it, but I guess I wasn’t using the right search keywords.
In re-looking over the connection bar, it doesn’t look like it has anything I really need. We’ll see how it goes once I get used to it.
If you’re missing your remote desktop bar, you want to make sure that checkbox is checked when connecting and move the mouse to the top center of the screen if it is not pinned.
EDIT: Use ctrl-alt-break keyboard combination to break out of the desktop session without disconnecting. This is needed as sometimes you don’t actually want to disconnect but switch to another underlying window temporarily.
EDIT2: An anonymous user contacted me to mention that CTRL-ALT-HOME makes the connection bar reappear so you can click minimize, restore or disconnect. Thanks for the tip!
